The criteria of treatment are Shodhan (Purificatory), NidanParivarjan (Avoidance of Causative and Precipitating Factors of Disease), Shaman (Palliative and Conservative), and PathyaVyavastha (Dos and Don’ts regarding Diets and Lifestyle). The Shodhan therapy comprises of Vamana (Medically Induced Emesis), Nasyam (Administration of Medicines via Nose), Vasti (Medicated Enema), Virechana (Medically Induced Laxation), and Raktmokshan (Blood Letting). All these therapeutic techniques are called Panchkarma. Besides, Snehan (Oleation) and Sweden (Getting Perspiration) must be first employed before implementing Panchkarma.
